We are not a problem people; we are a people with problems. We have historic strengths; we have survived because of family.
African American poet most often associated with the Black Arts Movement, Sanchez taught the first African American studies class in the country at San Francisco State College. She has authored over a dozen books of poetry, as well as plays and books that dealt with the struggles of Black Americans.
